Closing from hell, got extremely emotional with our realtor, feeling very embarrassed

 In RealEstate

TLDR: bought a house managed by an estate with double digits people in it (adult children of deceased previous owners). Original closing date got pushed back significantly due to an issue on their end. We moved across the country for this house, so initially we had an early occupancy agreement to move in ~6 weeks before second closing date. Everything was well and good, all parties consented and signed, official contract with the bank in place. Two business days before we move in, the early occupancy contract was broken very illegally by two of the sellers, therefore voiding the whole contract and we didn’t move in.

Today was our closing day. We went to do a walk through of the house and one of the two problematic sellers who broke the initial early occupancy contract — who had been living on the property but not in the house — had not moved out at all per the contract. After we signed, we were then informed that he was refusing to sign unless we gave him 30 days on the property to get his affairs in order. FUCK NO! We refused this but still were desperate to get him to sign so we counter offered. Went back and forth a few times before he basically told us to go fuck ourselves and he wasn’t negotiating, 30 days on the property or he didn’t sign. To which we said that they would be hearing from our lawyer and we would not be closing.

Thirty mins before the end of the business day, we get a call saying that he was signing the closing paperwork. He signed too late in the day for the bank to settle the funds but he did sign the paperwork so everything is good now. The bank will settle the funds on Monday and we will take full ownership. Still deliberating on how to handle it when his belongings are inevitably still on the property on Monday, but hey, at least we have a legal leg to stand on. We’ve already talked to the sheriff and a lawyer.

Anyways, all of this was happening and I was extremely emotional with our realtor, like sobbing and obviously in impassioned emotional distress. Now that the dust is semi-settled, I’m extremely embarrassed. This entire process has been dragged out for almost six months and the sellers have been horrendous to work with the entire time. Looking at very nice gift baskets for our lovely realtor as we speak. :-S
